The Commanding Position
Your bed placement determines whether your nervous system enters deep restorative sleep or stays in shallow vigilance mode. The commanding position activates your parasympathetic nervous system — the body's "rest and repair" mode.
- Bed diagonal from door, not in direct line
- Headboard against solid wall
- Can see doorway from pillow
- No mirror reflecting the bed
- Space clear under the bed
- No sharp corners pointing at bed
Quick Test
Lie in bed tonight. Can you see the door without turning your head more than 45°? Is your back against a solid wall? If both answers are yes, you're in the commanding position. If not, this is your #1 change.
Can't Move the Bed?
Place a small mirror on the opposite wall, angled to reflect the doorway. Your peripheral vision will register it, and your nervous system will accept the compromise.

Quick Remedies by Position
Wu Gui — The Haunting
Brass bell or singing bowl near entrance. Ring once before sleep. Metal exhausts fire energy.
Liu Sha — The Unraveling
Rose quartz or amethyst on nightstand. Add paired objects (two candles) for relationship healing.
Jue Ming — The Emptying
Brass Wu Lou (gourd) beside bed + earth-tone bedding. Most urgent — consider changing rooms.
Huo Hai — Small Storms
Small potted plant with rounded leaves (jade plant, peace lily). Composting irritation into growth.
Tonight's Checklist
- Move bed to commanding position (diagonal from door, back to wall)
- Remove or cover any mirror facing the bed
- Clear everything from under the bed
- Remove electronics or cover them with cloth
- Add one earth-element object (ceramic, stone, crystal)
- Close the bedroom door while sleeping
- Set intention: "This room supports my healing"
